Introductory space whose main purpose is communicating that Turkey is a land marked by the presence of water, and the importance water has had and still has for the country. From the conceptual point of view “WATER”, in this context, refers to water as a condition and basis for “LIFE” in the biological sense, as a necessary condition for organic existence, both vegetable and animal.
This space displays a selection of natural landscapes marked by the presence or absence of water. Turkey is a place shaped by its water, which has left its traces in one way or another.
These traces are revealed to us not only by the constant presence of water – as in the seas, the large lakes, the rivers, the wetlands, etc. – but also by its absence. An absence that, nevertheless, reveals millennial land and water interactions, such as the nature reserve of Cappadocia, where impressive limestone formations have been “carved” by the joint action of rain and wind.
Other landscapes will also attract visitors’ attention because they have been modeled by the direct action of the water, such as those found in the “Cotton Castle” (Pamukkale in ancient Hierapolis), where the water vividly becomes a “skilful architect”, in order to show us a surrealistic landscape, a fantastic aquatic garden, where the water runs from pool to pool forming huge crescent-shaped travertine terraces. In Pamukkale the thermal water emerges at 35ºC from the hot springs, spilling a constant flow of 240 liters per second. This thermal water is very useful for treating different diseases. From the platform-viewpoint of this peerless landscape one can catch sight of the fertile valleys of Denizli.

Water as a source of life displays attractive natural spaces to us which will undoubtedly attract visitors’ attention and encourage them, in many cases, to visit and experience them first hand. Cappadocia and Pamukkale (Hierapolis) will be the focal point of this space.

Exhibition Displays
This is the introductory space of the visit, a guiding and preparatory space for the rest of the exhibition tour. It uses a very particular and spectacular atmosphere, with controlled lighting, thanks to a series of vertical elements located in the entrance.
The ground, except for the wooden footbridge that the visitors will use to walk along, will be covered with gravel or wood shavings. From the ceiling, forming a kind of forest, will hang huge photographic backdrops which are imprinted with a selection of the most amazing and spectacular landscapes from Pamukkale (Hierapolis) and Cappadocia. On one side of the footbridge we will place the landscapes from Pamukkale, and on the other side the ones from Cappadocia. Both backdrops will serve to support an enormous panoramic photograph of both landscapes that is located in the background.
A variety of landscapes and forms will make it possible for the visitor to visit, in a short time, the amazing formations of Cappadocia and also the ones from the “Cotton Castle” in Pamukkale: two different landscapes, both of which are highly marked by the action of water. An authentic trip in which the contrast of colors and shapes predominate. Colors and shapes that will motivate, as if were an authentic touristic trip, visitors to learn about these particular water-shaped landscapes. |
